Troubleshooting tips: iPhone 8 rear camera doesn't work

After opening the iPhone 8 camera, it keeps black,  the iPhone 8 rear camera doesn't work, it won't take pictures for videos, here are some troubleshooting tips.

 

Tips 1. Restart iPhone 8

Many software errors can be fixed by restarting iPhone. When you turn your iPhone off and back on, it shuts down all the programs running on your iPhone and gives them a chance to start over again.

In order to restart iPhone 8, please press and hold the iPhone power button until the slider appears, drag the slider to turn your device completely off, after the device turns off, press and hold the iPhone power button again until you see the Apple logo

After turn on the iPhone 8, tap camera icon to test it, if it still doesn't work, try next solution.

Tips 2. Clean the iPhone rear camera

Clean the iPhone rear camera to make sure it's not covered by any sundries，such as protection shell, dusty or others.

You use a medical cotton ball or cleanroom wiper to wipe off the lens gently. After cleaning up，test the iPhone rear camera again, if it doesn't work, try next solution.

Tips 3. Turn off camera App and turn it on

When you tap the camera icon on iPhone 8 and switch it to the iPhone rear camera, but it show black screen. You can force close the camera App, and then re-turn it.

In order to force close App on iPhone 8, please double-click the iPhone Home button to show your most recently used apps, swipe right or left to find the app that you want to close, swipe up on the app's preview to close the app.

And then tap camera App to turn in on again to check whether it works properly, if not, check next solution.

Tips 4. Don't use Third-Party Camera Apps

When taking pictures or videos, the iPhone’s built-in Camera app is the most reliable option. Sometimes, the iPhone camera is not working when you use a third-party camera app, it will cause crashed camera app.

Just delete the Third-Party Camera Apps, and then try to open the original camera again. If the iPhone camera doesn't work, try next solution.

Tips 5. Update IOS

Sometimes, the IOS bugs can cause iPhone App not working, and Apple releases frequent updates to iOS to fix software bugs and patch up security issues.

- Update IOS on iPhone (General->Software Update)

- Update IOS via iTunes (Connect iPhone to the computer by iPhone lightning cable, and then use latest iTunes version to update it)
