BGA Rework station is called SMD rework station. And it is also called a blower or hot air gun in slang language by technicians even though they are 2 different tools. It is a cell phone repair equipment that blows hot air for removing and soldering any electronic components or IC on the motherboard like microphones, charging ports, etc. Now come back to the topic we will discuss today - How to use BGA rework station?

There are some precausions for using BGA rework station that you have to keep in your mind, it's especially essential to set up air and heat in a proper way!
Air Setting: You'd better keep the air setting a little above the minimum level. Because it is possible to remove or damage the neighboring parts if there is more air in the period of soldering. Otherwise, if there is no air available, it may lead the coil inside the handle to burn. Therefore, you need to set properly to keep a little bit of air is coming out along with the heat.
Heat Setting: In most cases, cell phone repairmen set up the temperature of BGA rework station between 300 degrees to 400 degrees , the exact degree depends on the size of IC' s. If it is an analog one without indicator or display instead of knobs on it, the knob of heat is setting on 3.5
Of course, these 2 settings can be also various by different situation and job. Also you need to select the appropriate tip either broad or narrow according to the job.
And solder flux is needed during the solering process , which is a kind of liquid paste that used at the edges of the IC before heating or removing an IC.

So, if you keep all the settings properly and be ready with the flux now, the next step for you is to switch on the button of the BGA rework station, then move its handle so that the heat on tip will come out in a circular motion inside the edges of the IC. Just keep on moving till 2 to 3 times if you only want to heat the IC. If you want to remove it, keep on moving till the IC loosens from the board and then lift it with tweezers. Do not try to pluck it out forcefully if it hasn' t loosened as it may damage the points below on the board.
For new repairmen and DIY type people, it' s better to practice on dead circuit boards and see more of professional skills and videos before practical operation. And we also advise you to have professional practical training so that you can do the entire procedure properly.
